Bunny art and artists at the Dogwood Festival

Thank you to the artists who allowed us to take pictures of their artwork. Pictures are in the order of our stroll. We were looking for bunny things but the artists have lots of non-bunny art, too.

One of our favorites was again at this show. Here are a couple of his pieces that we purchased in prior years when we have found him at other area art festivals.
This year, he had one of his bunny forms made into a plush bunny that we bought. Other of his characters will be made into stuffed animals but the bunny was first - as it should be!

Easter - real bad for real, live bunnies

This is a link where you can read about why: Easter and Rabbits Do Not Mix

The RR Bunny Advocacy page of Memes (many about Easter)

Please ...
Pick some memes/posters you like and spread the word:
Post it on your blog or Facebook page.
Post it in your church.
Ask your clergy to mention it from the pulpit.
Circulate it to your neighborhood groups.
Email it to your friends and contacts.
Send them to teachers/post it at school.
Ask your local paper to print it.
Ask TV and radio channels to make it into a PSA.

Please help save somebunny.

"It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little."

Regardless of the effort, after Easter, rabbit rescues will be flooded with rabbits that have become unwanted Easter gifts. Please donate any amount you can to your local rabbit or other animal rescue. If you don't have one, here's a great one: GHRS
And here is the international House Rabbit Society.

Don't give animals as gifts -- this applies to bunnies, chicks, ducklings, cats and dogs. Please be an educated, loving and caring pet person.
Adopt - don't shop.

The Plea of the Easter Bunny

Will you think of me at Easter,
Will you buy me as a gift...
For your girlfriend, boyfriend, little child
To grant their special wish?

Will you think of me inside my hutch,
That tiny 'starter-pack'
That doesn't let me hop around
And starts to hurt my back?

Will you think of me 'tomorrow'
When you go to work or school
With a lovely lunch packed in your bag,
'Cos I get hungry too...

Will you think of me, just sometimes please?
My hutch, it smells so bad.
I'd love some water in my bowl,
And some hay..I'd be so glad!

Will you think of me when the sun shines bright
And it's 'wonderfully hot'
But I cant get cool, this heat is cruel,
Don't tell me you've forgot!

Will you think of me when the north wind blows
And my hutch floor turns to ice,
And I'm shivering whilst you're all warm
Underneath your quilt so nice?

Will you think of me? Please think of me!
I'm helpless, at your mercy!
Why did you buy me on a whim?
Why did you then desert me?

Will you think of me now Easter has
Arrived yet once again,
And a thousand little bunnies
Face a life of hopeless pain?

I can binkie over rainbows now,
I am happy, and I'm free.
But I wonder, now that I have gone,

Will you ever think of me....?

No LIVE bunnies for #Easter.

Easter bunny napkin folding

Martha Stewart bunny napkin recipe
Materials: Cotton or linen napkins, starched

1. Fold starched napkin into thirds to form a rectangle. (If you're using a square napkin, you'll need to fold in half, and then fold in half again to get a long rectangular shape.)
2. Crease in half to create a center line for reference; fold top corners down along this line.
3. Fold up from bottom corners along dotted lines.
4. Bring left and right edges together on center line.

5. Flip upside down and over. Turn up bottom point.

6. To fasten: Fold left and right corners back; tuck one corner into the pocket of the other. Pull out bunny ears first; open up base.

If you are a little less formal, here's a video showing how to fold paper napkins:

One evening on the sofa

Some evenings, the bunnies will get on the sofa to check if I am in a generous treat mood (or when it is very close to 9pm, when they get their favorite treat, a Probios).

Here, Bunya was in a generous loving mood and was grooming Ethel, which she LOVES. It's very cute as he works his way from her forehead to the tip of her ear. Most of the time, she's loving on him. So, Ethel, the hyperactive, ADD bunny, just can't accept the loving. She jumps off the sofa, runs around and springs back up for more.

For perspective, my recliner is beside the right end of the sofa and that's where I am sitting while the bunnies stare at me. The second time, Ethel hops off, runs around to my right, THUMPS because I am not dishing out treats, and hops back up to be with Bunya.

Here's the rough schedule:
16 seconds - Ethel hops off, runs around and jumps back up at 22 sec
At 35 sec, Ethel hops off again, runs to my right and THUMPS - you can hear it at about 40 sec. Then she levitates back up to the sofa.

She does this so much - comes for a treat, doesn't get treat, hops off, runs around, thumps, and hops back up to see if the displeasure she has expressed resulted in a treat.

Bunya does NOT move. He waits, he stares. Notice how the pillow is blocking the end of the sofa arm? That's because, if he wants a treat, he will STARE at me and bite the fabric on the arm. You can hear it crunch. If I move for a treat, he stops. If I don't, he keeps staring at me and takes another bite. Until a treat results.

Bunnies are so freaking smart - and have us so trained.

Funny Bunny Monday Meme*day

Don't know who made this meme, but I'm not sure the bunnies give it that much consideration. More like:
Bunny: Looks like a root. I instinctively chew those.

A Volunteer's Paycheck

A Volunteer's Paycheck
How does being kind affect us?

1. Physiologically
  A. Those who volunteer report fewer aches and pains.
  B. People 55 and older who volunteer live longer.
  C. Volunteering and being kind can lower your blood pressure via the release of the hormone oxytocin.
  D. Performing acts of kindness releases endorphins.

2. Psychologically
  A. Kindness is like strength training - it can be improved with practice.
  B. Kindness is "contagious." Even witnessing kindness in others can impact your mood.
  C. People who donate to charity self-report higher levels of happiness.
  D. Kindness lowers the anxiety levels of people who report they have anxiousness.
  E. There is a strong correlation between the health, happiness and longevity of people who are emotionally and behaviorally compassionate towards others.

3. Bunnifically
  A. Rabbits are likely to report lower levels of "disapproval" to kind volunteers vs. the uneducated silly humans.
  B. Humans who volunteer with and rescue rabbits show:
    (1) Decreased sensitivity to stray hay in odd places (like your bed or underwear.)
    (2) A higher tolerance for rabbit fur on all articles of clothing and household objects.
    (3) Multilingual language abilities, with the ability to interpret "fluent rabbit" (and heightened sensitivity to protect fingers when interpreting the ears-back/tail-up pose.)
    (4) An improved ability to distinguish between a "real crisis" and a trivial event. (Receiving a deep puncture wound from said unprotected fingers is a trivial event. The car not starting when out of your rabbit's favorite greens is a "real crisis".)
    (5) Unequivocally and indisputably exceedingly high levels of "bunny supreme meditative bliss" (especially when petting said rabbits - an even higher state of consciousness plane when followed by a bunny flop.)

Funny Bunny Monday Meme*day

If you don't want to see pictures of my bunnies, socialize with someone else. Also, I will likely have pet hair on me and, quite possibly, a bun poop hiding in the folds of my clothes or cuffs.

Bunya and his bowl of oat hay

You know how, sometimes, smaller hay bits (and dust) settle at the bottom of the box or bag of hay? Well, Bunya loves his oat hay but the pieces were getting too small for our usual hay distribution channels. Put it in a bowl and Bunya was a happy camper. Turn up the volume so you can hear him crunching.  (No dust, just small hay pieces in bowl.)
